I was asked to be part of the Netflix #StreamTeam and share posts each month based on my experience. We are longtime Netflix users and cannot wait to share our experiences with you! All opinions are of course are own!
It’s no secret that I have a teensy tiny obsession with Netflix and the new finds on it. I’ve polled my Facebook friends recently and while they shared the Netflix finds they COULD NOT LIVE WITHOUT (more on that later), I received an ominous package in the mail from my fellow Netflix comrade, Sarah, that had me intrigued.
Filled with 10 reasons to watch Pretty Little Liars, the box gave me the oomph I needed to try the new to me series on Netflix (and HELLO to being able to binge ALLTHESEASON at the same time).
Mystery, intrigue, and LIES is the name of the game in Pretty Little Liars and follows the life and times of Alison, a mystery surrounding her disappearance, and the cronies she leaves behind.
They say that one rotten apple spoils the whole bunch? In this case, Alison was rotten to the core or so it seems. These girls try their hardest not to upset the apple cart, but when it comes to trying to get to the bottom of the mysteries surrounding this show, they oftentimes find themselves comparing apples to oranges.
So what better way to spend my time – besides binge-watching the series on Netflix – than to whip up an APPLE pie with a little secret of its own as inspired by Pretty Little Liars. This pie holds a particularly sweet (and EASY) secret – cinnamon rolls as the CRUST!
Ready to whip up a little lie pie of your own? Here’s what you’ll need:
2 packages of unbaked cinnamon rolls (with the frosting – save that ’til later)
Filling
6 apples, peeled, cored, diced
1 tbsp. lemon juice
3/4 c. flour
3/4 c. sugar
2 tbsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. cornstarch
Bring apples and remaining ingredients to a slow simmer on the stovetop and simmer for about five minutes until apples begin to soften and mixture begins to bubble and thicken. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Topping
2 tbsp. cold butter
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. flour
1 tbsp. cinnamon
Cut the butter into the flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon until the mixture becomes crumbly. Set to the side.
Now that you have your topping and filling, set to the side. Roll out each cinnamon roll and line the pie dish, bringing a portion of them up and over the sides (this will create the folding effect later).
Once you have your “secret” crust prepared, pour in your filling and add your topping mixture. Then, carefully fold over the sides of the cinnamon rolls – creating a torte or turnover look.
Cover the portions of foldover cinnamon roll crust with tinfoil to keep from burning.
Bake the pie at 375 degrees for 25 minutes, remove tinfoil, and bake until cinnamon roll crust begins to brown slightly (about ten more minutes). Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and then drizzle with the cinnamon roll icing.
A delicious little lie pie in about the time it takes to watch an episode or two! Super easy pie crust that makes it seem like you were in the kitchen all day, but they’ll never know HOW simple it was for you to make!
Did we mention it also makes the perfect late-night treat when you JUST cannot stop watching!?
As the episodes continue, you find that perhaps the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree – Spencer, Hanna, Aria, and Emily may just have as many secrets as Alison did, but you’ll never know unless you WATCH!
If you’re looking for a show with romance, intrigue, mystery, murder, lies, secrets, and more, then Pretty Little Liars is for you. I dare you not to binge-watch this series that has been the latest to catch my attention.
