I was asked to be part of the Netflix #StreamTeam and share posts each month based on my experience. We are longtime Netflix users and cannot wait to share our experiences with you! All opinions are of course are own!
As the clock ticked over to 12:01 am CST and we celebrated our Netflix New Year’s Eve Countdowns (we chose Skylanders Academy — of course), the mind switched from all the holiday things and instead began thinking about New Year’s resolutions. One of my goals for 2017 is to utilize Netflix to watch more documentaries and learn more about the world around me.
My first venture into the documentary world was Minimalism – fitting for a new year with new life goals. Minimalism follows the journey of two friends as they shed their excessive, money-driven lifestyles and opt for a simpler lifestyle. I have long been inspired by living a life with less and this only furthered the fascination. 2017 will be in part about less and a journey to she some of that excess in our own lives.
But getting on track with decluttering and minimalism isn’t just for moms and dads. The chores of a house can easily be shared by the entire family, especially when you add in some creative inspiration. I know the boys LOVE watching their favorite shows, so how awesome would it be for them to walk alongside and complete chores each day, but see where their efforts are going? Enter Netflix-inspired chore charts.
These chore charts keep the tasks relatively simple (they are almost 6 and almost 8), while completing basic tasks throughout the day, and in turn, makes sure I don’t have to do them FOR them – giving me more time to focus on other house goals. These can easily be modified for the ages and show preferences for your own kids, but these seemed fitting for our purpose. I know over time these may evolve as their interests and abilities change.
The way it works is simple. They pick a show’s chore chart (I put in their favorites) and then complete all of the tasks on the list. If they do, then they are allowed to watch any episode of that show at some point in the day (the sooner they finish, the sooner they are able to watch).
I like this – because if I time this correctly, it just might keep them occupied during those crazy dinner hours! (Plus, if they both complete their charts, then they essentially get TWO episodes!) If you have siblings, I strongly encourage you to make sure they BOTH finish, so as not to reward one with a show for work they haven’t done yet.
Each chore chart has a printable link below it. Feel free to laminate and use dry erase markers each day. You can also have them switch charts, so the shows they get to watch will vary. Did they do chores every day of the week? Toss in a bonus episode!
Mako Mermaids may not be for my little guys, but they may be sure to inspire your littles! I included this chore chart because mermaids are all the rage and I just might add this to my streaming list this year!
Dragons: Race to the Edge Printable
A long-time love for the boys – Dragons have a special place in their heart. Toothless is my little love and I think I just might make sure they do their chores, so that I can watch also! This Netflix Original is sure to inspire the hero (and cleaner) in each of them!
It’s no secret that my family is OBSESSED with PokemonGo! They’ve gotta catch ’em all and streaming is no different. This is one of their FAVORITE SHOWS EVER and certainly a great reward if they can just remember to pick up their rooms. Pokemon: Indigo League is a Netflix original sure to keep them on the go!
One of their favorite videos come to life? And also the stars of their favorite Netflix New Year’s Eve countdown? Skylanders Academy brings all the whimsical to life and frankly, is actually pretty hysterical (hint, hint: Watch an episode or twelve yourself!)
