In the past few months, I’ve heard quite a few people say “I can’t.” Then comes the laundry list of why they just cannot do the things they want to do.
And they are usually excuses. Or mentions of their life’s circumstances that have put them in this place.
You are not a victim of your life’s circumstances unless you allow yourself to be.
Let me repeat.
You. Are. Not. A. Victim.
I am a doer. I haven’t always been this way, so I get it. I spent much of my twenties trying to lean on the fact that I was a product of my life’s circumstances.
But one day, I woke up. And I stopped complaining about the things I could not change. And started to do more about what I could.
This is not always the easy route – it is sometimes excruciatingly hard NOT to complain at every turn I encounter. But my life is vastly different now that I see most glasses as half full. It also helps – when I see the glass is empty, if I just get up and pour myself some water.
Do you get what I’m laying down here?
So you’ve encountered a few failures here and there? Dream Bigger.
Life doesn’t happen TO you. You make life happen. You ARE life. You are living – why not make it the best life you possibly can?
Sometimes, life is going to be pretty terrible and it’s going to hand you bad situation after bad situation. But the true test of survival is if you are able to stand up, declare you are not the victim, and then refusing to actually be the victim.
This starts with a mindshift.
You can get swallowed up whole in the negativity, the pessimism, and the yuck of this life. But you deserve better and remind yourself that you do. You deserve it, your family deserve it, and this world deserves it.
They deserve the best you – not the one that gives up and continues to play the victim in your life’s circumstance.
People look at others and wonder how they have it all together? Did you ever think that they probably don’t, but that they just choose to focus on all the good in their life instead of the negative?
Stop playing the comparison game and change your perspective.
You are not a victim and stop giving the world reason to believe that you are one.
