The autumn season is the perfect opportunity to find the time to fall in love with your partner all over again. Whether you’ve been together for quite some time or you are in the newness of romance, the crisp weather is the perfect opportunity to cuddle under the blankets and plan the perfect date night in. After fifteen years and in the throes of life, kids, and work, my hubby and I don’t often find the time to go out on formal dates, but date nights in are the perfect way to try something new, enhance intimacy, and fall even more in love.
Date nights in are perfect for when the kids are tucked in bed and you can spend some quality time together. I recommend gathering every comfortable blanket you own, filling the couch with pillows, and snuggling in front of a blazing fire or romantic movie. Once you’ve got the mood set, showcase your passion through chocolate with one of these delectable desserts. Chocolate is an aphrodisiac and sure to set the mood.
Triple Chocolate Dipped Apples
For this recipe, you will need 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips, 6 oz. white chocolate chips, 6 oz. bittersweet or dark chocolate, red apples (or green if sweet and sour is your style), and chopsticks.
To create these masterpieces, cut your chopsticks in half, remove the stem from each apple, and stick half of a chopstick where the apple stem used to be.
Each layer of these triple chocolate layers will be applied separately. Over a double boiler, melt the dark chocolate first until fully melted. Dip the lower half of the apples in the chocolate and twist.
Let cool and harden in the refrigerator. Next, melt your white chocolate chips until smooth (I added a little half and half to thin out a bit). Drizzle slightly above the dark chocolate layer to create a dripping effect. Let cool and harden.
Lastly, melt your semi-sweet chocolate chips and drizzle above the two others, continuing the dripping effect. The result will be a sweet chocolate experience that’s perfect for sharing and nibbling. Indulge together. Your relationship will thank you.
Decadent Chocolate Truffles
If you’re looking for something a bit more sinful, try these decadent chocolate truffles to inspire your romantic date night in. Using a few simple ingredients, you can create these during nap time, after work, or in the morning in preparation for date night.
You will need 12 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate chips, 4 oz. of cream cheese, softened, and 4 tsp. of brewed coffee.
Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips over low heat or a double broiler. Once the chips have started to melt, dice up the cream cheese and incorporate. Add in the brewed coffee and stir until fully incorporated. Refrigerate for two hours to harden. Next, using a melon baller or cookie scoop, create your truffles and put on parchment paper. Refrigerate another hour or so until solidified.
Melt chocolate of your choice (I chose bittersweet and white chocolate chips) and drizzle to create a fun presentation. For variation, dip in chocolate and sprinkle with sea salt. Serve with a side of love and romance.
Chocolate Fondue for Two
The final recipe to show your passion for chocolate (and your mate) is a simple chocolate peanut butter fondue. Melt your preferred chocolate chip and swirl in creamy peanut butter. Serve alongside pound cake, pretzel sticks, and marshmallows. The leftover chocolate might require the use of your imagination.
Chocolate isn’t the only way to enhance the mood.
