Say hello to my friend + co-worker, Anca. She’s hopping in for a guest post today because she’s actually pursuing a career as a fashion designer, so she’s all about creating something unique and personalized to you. Her talent will blow you away and give you inspiration to create a look that means something to you – no matter what the end result looks like!

Fashion is my passion. It’s my motto for pursuing a career as a fashion designer for special occasions. After attending Moraine Valley community College, I enrolled at Columbia College Chicago for my fashion design major. Ever since I took an intro to fashion class in high school, sewing was once a hobby that turned into a talent and became my new dream. I decided to take my newly found talent to the next level, by competing in national competitions. I received first place junior, and senior year. I have designed and sewed a countless amount of garments.
Fashion is an art that challenges my imagination and builds my skills. The clothes I wear make me feel confident because the designs I make and clothes I sew are who I am. Fashion is so versatile, that I can change my style whenever I want to. Fashion is the first confidence booster that I was able to rely on. I feel comfortable trying new styles and trying things out of my comfort zone. Fashion has always been around since the beginning of time and it’s history continues. It speaks volumes. I can either make a bold statement or downplay my outfit and just go casual. I have made a full commitment to Fashion. The ideas I have are not even sketched out yet, but I plan to achieve them all some day. I do have a few designs and sketches that I am extremely proud of.
The first picture is the first dress I sewed for my graduation. I wanted my dress to represent class and elegance. Heels are a signiture style for me. Because I am obsessed with heels, I had to have them for graduation.

The second dress I created was specially made for my final fashion show. We were known as Fashion Valley Couture. The theme of the show was royalty, so I took my inspiration not only from the theme, but also a show I was interested in a called ‘Reign’. The designs of the renissance really captured the meaning of royalty. I used a dull version of sequin and a black under skirt with see through long sleeves. I paired it with a gold necklace.

I’ve been in multiple shows, also relating to heritage fashion. An Arabic and African show showcasing different garments from different parts of Arabic, Saudi Arabia and African, Nigerian culture.

Turning the page of fashion, there is styling. Many celebrities have their personal stylist. For me, my personal stylist is not only me, but my fiancé. He helps me pick out different looks and outfits for certain occasions that we have together. We’ve done a photo shoot in December where our clothes complemented each other. My fiancé, Kenny, has a pair custom made Nike Flight 89’s, light denim jeans, a white t-shirt, and a black winter coat that folds open. The only difference in our outfits, was the shoes; me wearing heels. The photo shoot was placed downtown and it was our very first photo shoot together.

Last but not least, I am currently working on a collection, which consists of the Four Elements. As you can see, I’ve been able to create a look for fire, water, and air and earth, and a finale look with the intent to captivate my audience. This will be my frst collection that I design from scratch. I take extreme pride in my art and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.
Thank you so much for sharing, Anca! Isn’t she crazy talented?
