One of our favorite stops throughout the year is Kohl’s Children Museum. Located in Glenview, Illinois, this Children’s Museum is a hidden gem that is filled with space for kids to explore, play and just be kids! My boys (ages 6 & 4) love heading out there for a day trip and located up 294, it’s the perfect opportunity to take a group of friends and enjoy the day!
One of the most recent additions to Kohl Children’s Museum exhibit list is the Chagall for Children Traveling Exhibit. This new Museum addition incorporates multi-sensory elements, beautiful artwork by infamous artist Marc Chagall and exhibits that engage all of the senses – perfect for kids of all ages.
A bit more about the exhibit itself:
Originally developed by Kohl Children’s Museum, the highly interactive exhibit features components that offer hands-on activities and audio descriptions of each work specifically appropriate for children ages 2-12. Following the Chagall for Children exhibit debut at the Museum in 1996, the multi-faceted exhibit has been on continuous tour, visiting children’s museums throughout North America. The exhibit runs now through September 6, 2015. Visit before it continues its travels!
Here are some of favorite experiences as told by my boys:
The Concert: This space gives visitors an opportunity to create a symphony of music much like Chagall creates an art piece. Jack (age 4) LOVED creating his own tunes, even if out of tune most of the time. He spent quite a bit of time circling back to this space.
Flowers: My son Charlie (age 6) would spend ALL day in the gardens if he could and so this section was right up his alley. He loved incorporating what he has learned at school and creating his own floral masterpieces.
Green Violinist: My personal favorite space that involved the reworkings of the puzzle and incorporating magnetic elements. I love that the space is designed to involve the entire family and we had a blast doing just that.
The Blue House: BUILD BUILD BUILD! This space is perfect for two bouncing boys and they absolutely LOVED building their own creations with Lincoln Log style pieces. It’s amazing how these beautiful pieces of art can continue to be a building and learning experience for kids of all ages.
