The boys finished school this past week and the start of summer is right around the corner! With that in mind, we love participating in our local reading programs and with the new Meatheads in Oak Lawn, the boys have a chance to enjoy their favorite foods after reading their favorite books!
On June 1st, Meatheads will kick off its 5th year of summer reading with the 2015 Voracious Reading Program! The program, which runs until late August at all 16 Meatheads locations in Chicagoland and Indiana, encourages kids to read books during the summer to stay sharp.
The Voracious Reading Program works like this: students must read 5 books to earn a reward of one little Meatheads burger. Students can print out a certificate at www.meatheadsburgers.com. A parent or guardian signature is required for each award. The program is active at all Chicagoland Meatheads locations. Some of the most popular titles students typically read over the summer include: The Little Engine That Could, The Giving Tree, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
To make reading fun for the entire family, Meatheads is partnering with Open Books and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers to host reading events throughout the summer with local authors, crafts and story time. Events include:
In addition to the author events, Beth Engelman, columnist and blogger for Mommy On A Shoestring will host garden-themed reading events throughout the summer. Beth will read books about gardening, plants and “going green”. All kids who attend will decorate a flower pot to take home. Beth’s schedule is below:
