Two years ago, I was lucky enough to participate in the second annual Listen to Your Mother show in Chicago. My piece, What I Would Say, was a painful and sentimental reminder of my journey to start and grow our family, and one that still to this day, people have reached out to me about.
More than the opportunity to share my experience was the people I met and the stories I heard and the day where we had the opportunity to share the stage with one another. I also met Erin that day and we quickly bonded over our mutual hilariousness and close proximity to one another in the south suburbs.
Us on Show Day 2013.
We quickly bonded as we rode together to each practice and show day. We became fast friends, our kids loved playing together and Listen to Your Mother created a bond I wouldn’t soon forget.
On the morning of our last show, Erin gave me a Charming Charlie’s gift card as a token of her appreciation. If Erin knows anything about me, it’s that I’m procrastinator and have a huge wallet of gift cards that I always forget to use and never seem to remember to take with me.
So imagine my surprise when TWO YEARS LATER, I struggled to find something to wear with this year’s outfit and suddenly remembered that gift card from two years ago. The warm fuzzy feelings it brought up and the usefulness of the gift now – not knowing that it would come in handy now. I found the most ridiculous yet poignant thing I could find.
I headed to Charming Charlie’s and quickly found the perfect piece (on clearance of course) and decided to give Erin a little token of my appreciation because she’s just that special. Even better, I’ll be sharing the stage with her (and 12 others) later today and I couldn’t be more blessed to share this experience with her again. After all, we wouldn’t be “mom friends” without Listen to Your Mother.
Without further ado, the prized piece from Charming Charlie’s. I think she’s going to laugh. And then love it.
Break a leg, friend. So blessed to have you in my mom club.
