Enough came as a review copy to me, but all opinions expressed are my own. And ALL THE FEELINGS I felt were real and unique to me. Also: GIVEAWAY BELOW.
It seems like I can hardly remember when I didn’t follow Kate on her blog. Long before her post went viral, I fell in love with her way with words. Her beauty both inside and out and her ability to be so REAL with the interwebs. Each time she writes, she is thoughtful, inclusive and wise. And the fact that her words were expanded into a larger body of work as a book was the perfect way to expound on the short thoughts from a blog post. With two boys, I wasn’t sure Enough would pertain to me. I wondered what I could teach teenage girls and frankly, I worried that I wouldn’t even have teenage girls to reach. But then I thought of my niece and dove right in.
I quickly discovered that Enough had to do with a message for teenage girls, but also resonated with me and was one that I knew meant something to me as a woman, mother, daughter, niece and friend. I immediately had the sudden urge to BUY ALL THE COPIES and pass them out to every woman I met, shouting, YOU ARE ENOUGH! Encouraging them to find value and worth in themselves. This books covers the ins and outs of finding worth as a woman and rules to live by – how we treat ourselves and others. Read it. Read it again. And pass it on.
One of my favorites:
“We can practice Enough. Practice it on days you feel so frumpy and icky that you cannot even recognize the woman in the mirror. Practice it on the hardest days, the days that you don’t believe it; that’s when you need it. Practice Enough so your daughters can too. Teach her how to love a body that’s grown babies, and still bears the evidences of children having lived on the inside. Teach your teenager that your yoga pants are your uniform, that they are a sign of expertise, which is quite the opposite of letting oneself go.”
You are beautiful. Strong. Smart. You are enough.
Bless a teenage girl in your life by buying the version of this book specifically designed to reach her. Follow up with her, encourage her to read it, read it with a small group at church, but do whatever you can to give her the guidebook and remind her often of just how valuable she is.
I highly recommend paying close attention to chapters called Neon Purple Leggings, Six Circles and Dumb is Never Cute. They will ROCK YOUR WORLD. Wishing best of luck and success to one of the most beautiful, hardest working women I know – YOU ARE ENOUGH, Kate.
