We received some select books from Parragon Books to review. All opinions expressed are our own.
With an avid almost-Kindergartener reader and an almost-preschooler interested in books every.single.day, reading is a huge part of our everyday lives! Since the boys were in the womb, Jim has read to them and the tradition continues to this day. I especially love the summertime because when boredom strikes, we can always find new books to strike our fancy. Joining our local library’s reading program has been a God-send.
I thought I’d put together some great tips and tricks for making reading and books important resources in the lives of your kids.
Choose books that are interesting!
Keeping the attention of your little ones when reading is of utmost importance. Let them choose their own titles, subject matters and books that they can interact with. Charlie LOVES learning new things, so the Discovery Kids 1000 Strange but True Animal Facts offers 1,000 extraordinary facts about animals that will take you on a journey of discovering weird things, people, places and animals in our world! At just $5.99 in paperback, this book makes a great gift and helps your family spend the afternoon learning more than you could imagine!
I love the pages of these books – bright, colorful, huge pictures and the words are the perfect level for Charlie to practice reading.
Make sure the books are interactive!
Jack LOVES books that are interactive and he can engage with. Whether it’s pop-up books, flip the cover, or open the windows, Jack enjoys using motion and the like to interact with the books he reads. He especially loved the Stickersaurus book that opens out into 7 giant story scenes showing the streets, cityscape and skies of New Dino City. With over 50 reusable stickers and super-stretchy dinosaur character, children can read the story panels and create their own action-packed scenes.
The boys loved the huge scenes and the fact that they unfolded into larger scenes made it even more interactive and fun!
Jack fell in love with this Stretchy Saurus – they became fast friends as he traveled through the book.
The boys took turns find the stickers that went with each page and putting them on there!
READ to your children all the time!
Whether you’re in the car, at the doctor’s office or at home, take the time to read to them. Use magazines, signs outside, newspapers, the internet and share the love of words with them. The more they see and hear you reading, the more likely they are to share the same affection for this hobby. Even more so, they will grow to have a love for books as the years go on – making tackling school quite a bit easier!
We loved our Parragon Books!
