If you know anything about our family, then you know how much we LOVE the Fourth of July. Starting from when the boys were VERY little, we’ve always made celebrating America’s birthday a big deal. This year, I decided to make a sweet treat to celebrate using the unlikely ingredient of 100% American made Bigelow Tea from the aisles of Walmart. Infusing the tea into the recipe makes the flavor pop out with an intensity unlike anything you’ve ever tried! It’s the firework finisher to a perfect July Fourth day! #AmericasTea #CollectiveBias
The magic starts in the Tea aisle of Walmart.
Assorted Teas, Pomegranate and my personal recipe favorite, Vanilla Chai Black Tea
Did you know Bigelow also gets into the patriotic spirit? They have sent almost 4 million bags of tea to troops overseas with Bigelow’s Tea for Troops program. Bigelow Tea’s Charleston Tea Plantation is also America’s largest working tea garden. Guests are invited to the Charleston Tea Plantation for weddings, tours and even a variety of music festivals. You can also find Bigelow on Twitter.
The recipe choice from our littlest Patriot ended up being cupcakes. Easy to eat and already portioned out, they are the perfect addition to your July Fourth Barbecue!
Ingredients Assembled
- 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
- 1 cup water
- 6 Bigelow Vanilla Chai Tea Bags
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1.5 cups sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1.5 tsp baking soda
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Add butter and water to a large saucepan along with six tea bags. Allow to melt. Once melted, strain butter/water mixture and remove tea bags.
- Remove from the heat and add sugar until dissolved.
- Add sour cream, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Pour into cupcake lined pan and cooked for 15 minutes or until done.
- Top with homemade whipped cream topping (see below)
These cupcakes pair perfectly with fresh whipped cream topping. Mix 1.5 cups of heavy whipping in a chilled bowl until it starts to slightly stiffen. Slowly add 2.5 tablespoons of granulated sugar and a splash of vanilla extract. Continue mixing until soft peaks start to show. Frost cupcakes, top with sprinkles, berries, or cutesy flags or candles and ENJOY!
Happy Birthday, America! How does your family celebrate the Fourth?
