You may have heard the phrase that it takes a village to raise a child, but did you know it also takes a village to make Habitat for Humanity happen? Helping families build homes and create awesome lives for their families, you can be part of something special. I was able to volunteer for the first time a few months ago and fell in love with the building projects and organization. I’ll even be sharing about my own special mission later this week.
Will you help build this city?
Cheesy music aside, Habitat for Humanity is a great organization that helps future homeowners build their way to owning their own homes with mortgages billed at a 0% financing rate. Homeowners then participate in a significant amount of hours of sweat equity and volunteer work building other homes to continue the process. On Wednesday, June 18th – Saturday, June 21st, 2014, they’ll be hosting a special Women Build through the Windy City Affiliate.
Windy City Habitat for Humanity’s Second Annual Women Build will bring over 120 women together in the spirit of generosity and achievement to help build and find the home of a woman in need of a decent, affordable housing. Special guests include HGTV Kitchen Crashers host, Alison Victoria; Chicago’s Best host, Brittney Payton; and NBC’s Food for Thought’s Dr. Sandy Goldberg. Support Women Build in empowering women to promote, fund, and build the home of a female head of a household! A four-day build bringing a community of 30 women together each day to learn building skills and to work on a Habitat home.
This year’s event will advance the home of the Robinson family, a vibrant family of six headed by Grandma Robinson, a woman who strives to keep her family together, safe, and supported. The build will take place at S. Union Ave at 120th St. in West Pullman, home to Windy City Habitat’s block build.
