As the season for giving and receiving is approaches, I’m often reminded of just how blessed we are as a family. Last season, we chose to RACK random people in our lives and strangers that we met by blessing them in a variety of surprise ways. I loved being able to bless people out of the blue – something unexpected and generally inexpensive, but a delight nonetheless. We shared some of what we did on the family blog, but never really kept track officially. The boys had a blast giving to others and I am hoping to continue to encourage those giving and empathetic spirits.
Enter The Sparkle Box. A book by Jill Hardie that includes your very own Sparkle Box shares the story of Sam. Sam is so excited about Christmas! He’s thinking about his Christmas list, looking forward to holiday parties, and puzzling over one very mysterious gift: a sparklybox sitting on the mantel. In the midst of the festivities, Sam and his family participate in various acts of kindness to others. On Christmas morning, when Sam finally opens the Sparkle Box, he finds only slips of paper that record the family’s good deeds. Sam’s mom explains that the things that they’ve been doing are, in fact, a gift for Jesus, for Jesus said that whatever we do for those in need, we do for Him.
As we read the story together, I talked with Charlie about the importance of sharing with others. In the weeks before Christmas, I hope to share with others and bless those in our lives in ways we would not typically expect. I’ll share those right here on the blog on our journey to fill our Sparkle Box. I can’t wait to fill the box!
