This is a guest post all about our childhood. Have you looked back on your childhood fondly? What are some of your favorite memories?
As the Rizzle Kicks song goes, “when I was a youngster I wanted to be everything on the planet”. It’s so true; in our childhoods we dreamt of being professional footballers, pop stars, racing drivers and prime ministers, and while many of us won’t ever achieve those dreams, there’s no harm in aiming to be the best you can be and trying to make it happen.
During those years, we all saw trends come and go, with certain items more popular than others and lingering around our homes for years. Think back to your school days and the memorabilia you used to have, from the television show you spent hour after hour watching, to the things you had in your room that you’d never own today because they’re just “not you”. Back in the day, however, we all had things that we thought were cool. These possessions shaped our childhoods, giving us the memories that we hold so dearly today. In fact, the home retailers, Betta Living, carried out a survey to find out the favourite childhood memories from around the UK, and you can see the results if you click here.
Think back to your own childhood – what kind of things stand out to you? It might be a favourite toy or television show, or perhaps a famous person who you idolised so much, you got your parents to pay for your fan club membership! It might be that it’s a specific item that stands out. For example, in the Betta Living survey, it was revealed that people’s childhood memories of their bathrooms at home were based around certain products, such as shampoo or the ‘Matey’ bubble bath that came in bottles that ranged from pirates to princesses.
Everyone has different memories of their childhood, and that’s what makes them all unique and special to you. You might have had friends that you shared interests and hobbies with, such as computer games, certain CDs or trading cards, but ultimately, your own childhood will be filled with memories from around the home, including the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen, and the toys you owned and spent hours playing with.
Your memories might even be reinforced when you watch the television with your own children or go shopping for their birthday or Christmas presents, wandering down the aisles and spotting games you played when you were younger, or teddies that you owned yourself… Oh to be young again!
