As my boys get older, we find ourselves joining the ranks of parents everywhere in the months of August and September – school and sports physicals time! While we have our own doctor, sometimes it can be difficult to get an appointment as soon as we need it if it’s not for a sick visit. Enter Walgreens Healthcare Clinic. Conveniently located in store, the Healthcare Clinic can address your preventative as well as treatment needs. Situated next to the pharmacy, the Clinic is easy to find and spacious enough to accommodate even those busy days. To prepare Charlie for the upcoming school year (::SOB::, he will be in pre-K!), I headed to Walgreens in Oak Lawn with both boys in tow to check this off my to-do list.
Upon walking in, you’re greeted with large, informative signage and I quickly found out that Walgreens Healthcare Clinics provide a pharmacy, take care clinic, immunizations, and advice or answers to your questions. Located near the back of the store, the area has been renovated to accommodate sign-in kiosks, a large pharmacy with several registers, a lobby, computer desk & computer, and two clinic rooms. I learned from the nurse practitioner who saw us that there are typically two nurse practitioners at all times taking patients and they have access to a doctor should they have any questions they cannot answer.
The waiting room had plenty of chairs and the sign-in kiosks were a breeze to use. I simply used the touchscreen to check Charlie in (they also take appointments and I encourage doing that if you can).
Walk-ins are welcome. Simply register and then have a seat until you’re called! If you don’t have an appointment, but would like to see how long the wait is, Walgreens online clinic site can tell you the wait time for your local clinic.
Walgreens Healthcare Clinic is currently running a school, sports or camp physical special through September 30th of this year. The cost is just $39 and then you’re all set! They are also happy to answer any of your current questions or concerns regarding your child’s health and well-being.
Our wait time was next to nothing because we were the first walk-ins of the day. The clinic in Oak Lawn opened at 7 a.m. and we were seen by 7:10 a.m. after registering. The well visit & physical took approximately 15 minutes and she was extremely knowledgeable and thorough. The boys also thought she was friendly and neither had any reservations about seeing the “doctor.” I also liked the fact that she modified some of the exams to fit Charlie’s age & size. You can see more of our visit over on Google+.
One of the other great parts about the Healthcare Clinic is the fact that it’s located within an actual store which means that while you wait, you can shop, use coupons, snag those incidentals you forgot about and walk around a bit to browse. Even though we have our own primary care physician, I love the fact that they offer weekend & evening hours. As a mom-on-the-go, that’s convenient for our busy lives. If you don’t have a primary care physician, this setting is perfect for you. The Walgreens #HealthcareClinic #shop #cbias is also great if you are near to the area or don’t have a reliable method of transportation. It’s likely that there’s a location near you within walking distance.
Have you used a Walgreens Healthcare Clinic? What kinds of opportunities would you hope they offer to your family as far as medical treatment and preventative care is concerned?

Wow, looks like that Walgreens has everything! Thankful for those low prices on exams! My youngest needed one this year and we went to Walgreens, too!

The Walgreens in Oak Lawn with the clinic is very honest from my experience. I was bitten by a dog about 3 years ago or so. (I don’t remember the exact year). I went there because I didn’t want to go to Christ Hospital. They did not charge me to look at my bites and sent me to an emergency care station that would take me faster than Christ. They understood why I hated the ER at Christ and also told me that they would treat me except for the fact that one bite was on my neck. They even alerted the ER care station in Oak Lawn that I was coming so that I would not have to wait forever. I really liked them.

He’s so stinkin’ cute! He looks like he’s all excited to be there. I’m still in bed at 7am. Or was . . . until I got a puppy! Even my kids are still sleeping then. 🙂 Great job, Samantha!
