How do you sum up a three month experience that changes your life forever? How do you encapsulate what it feels like to form close friendships after seeing each other only about three times in the course of those months? This past Sunday, I finally shared my story with sixteen other women at the Listen to Your Mother Chicago show. The stories shared ranged from hilarious to sad. Hearts were poured out and the audience received each and every one of them.
I’m not stranger to the stage (Hello, Ever After in high school), but this felt different. My piece was original – something I had written. We performed in an amazing 101-year-old theatre complete with a balcony. But mostly, this show is bigger than your five minutes of fame. In 2014, take a leap, take a jump and join a movement that will change the way you view Motherhood and will give you an outlet to share your story. Someone out there needs to hear it and will benefit from your willingness to bare a piece of your soul. Mothers, daughters, brothers, sons, husbands alike have a story to share about Motherhood.
This show mattered to me. From the fancy lights to the tears in a camera store, we told a story that wasn’t always beautiful, easy, or simple, but one that showed Motherhood in a real honest way. The show should be available on YouTube later this summer and I’ll be sure to post about it then. Another chance for our stories to be told.
