My friend, Nicole, (also Jack’s future mother-in-law) put together an adorable artist’s dream birthday party! This Arts and Crafts theme incorporated some great ideas and looked like a blast! If you are looking to throw a colorful party with lots for the kids to do – you’ve come to the right place!

What type of event did you plan/attend and for who and how did you decide on a theme?
This Arts and Crafts themed birthday party was for my daughter Brooklynn’s 7th birthday. I followed all colors of the rainbow throughout the party decor…from invitations to decorations to the candy and dessert buffet! This theme was chosen for a couple of reasons. #1. Brooklynn LOVES art! She is always making something out of anything she finds around the house. Her desk area in her bedroom is her ‘Art Laboratory’! Joann Fabrics and Michaels ARE her Toys R Us! haha! #2. PINTEREST!!!!!! Such Cheap, Easy and Brilliant ideas! I knew that Brooklynn and her friends (party attendees) would love these fresh new ideas! I know I did! I definitely heard a lot of “Oh cool…look at this, guys!” Followed by my Brooklynn’s “Ya…my mom did that! Isn’t it cool!” Need I say more!?!?!
How far in advance did you begin planning?
I started planning her party about a month in advance. This year, we went with a just friends from school party. With my girls, we do a big family and friends party for the bigger milestone ages (1-5 and then 10 and so on…) We then do a small group of friends party and an immediate family dinner for the other birthdays. (not saying at all that they’re not important birthdays!) We had 10 friends from school join us for her party! So with this smaller group, I only needed a month. Otherwise, I’d usually need maybe 2 or 3 months!
Where did you get some of your ideas for the decor/food?
My personal theme for every party i do, regardless of what it’s for: Find the coolest stuff for SUPER CHEAP!!!!! I live by this! I definitely do my homework! I find all the store coupons i can online or in the paper. I also search Ebay to see if I can find coordinating items for dirt cheap. With this party, i basically shopped at Michaels, Joann’s, Hobby Lobby, Sam’s Club, Ebay and Dollar Tree. I used the 50% off coupons that i got online from Hobby Lobby (Bonus: Joann’s and Michaels honor competitor coupons, so was able to use the ‘One Coupon Per Customer Per Day’ once a day at each store!) to get anything for the party that was too pricey. Mainly items for the candy and dessert buffet. (Bonus: Purchased Apothecary Jars for the party with these 50% off coupons, adding more inventory of jars for my business, Sweet & Saavy Candy and Dessert Buffets!) And yes, I am that lady that spend 2 hours sifting through the clearance bins searching for those hidden treasures for a steal! My most satisfying, cheapest find for this party? Personalized, coordinating labels for the favor bags: $.01 for 30 labels from Vistaprint! Caught a great sale! Invitations were ordered through Etsy, one of my all time favorite websites! Paid $10 for the personalized invitation to be sent to me on a jpg file and just printed as many as I needed right from home on cardstock! They turned out adorable!
What was your favorite part of the party and/or party-planning process?
My favorite part of planning this party was definitely getting to do a candy and dessert buffet! Seeing that i just started my business, getting to create another buffet was awesome! (Bonus: Had a photographer, who happens to be my best friend, come and take professional pictures, at no cost, of the finished buffet for my upcoming website and to add to my portfolio! Killed 2 birds with 1 stone!) The smile on my baby’s face was priceless when she seen the finished product! Made my heart smile 🙂 and gave me a little extra confidence in my work! My favorite end result of this party was how extremely happy I made my little birthday princess!
What was your least favorite part?
My least favorite part of the party planning was having to take my 18-month-old to all of the stores with me for supplies! HaHa! Other than that, everything went smoothly…I love party planning!
Feel free to share any of your favorite links/online stores that you utilized in planning or buying materials!
