This week, the party planning is all about pirates, me mateys! So let’s walk the plank with Lindsay! Lindsay has two little boys herself and always seems to have time for fun projects around her house! Check out her painted vases and her fabric covered diaper box! So cute and simple! Her son Oliver turned two and she planned to a party filled with Ships Ahoy! and buried treasure! Enjoy!

What type of event did you plan/attend and for who?
I planned a Pirate themed birthday party for my son Oliver’s 2nd birthday.
How far in advance did you begin planning and how did you decide on a theme?
Oliver loves everything pirates, I think it all started when Jake and the Neverland Pirates started on Disney. He always asked to watch that show, so I went from there. I’m always up for a good decorating challenge, so I decided I wanted to make the majority of it myself. I kind of branched away from the Disney version and just went with the whole pirate theme. I started really planning in December, his birthday was in February.
Where did you get some of your ideas for the decor/food?
Pinterest! What did we did before it?! The party was only a few hours long so I didn’t want to do a meal. I went with finger foods {sweet and sour meatballs, chips and dip, gold fish crackers, cheese and cracker and of course cupcakes.}
Creating everything and watching his party come together. Seeing his face as he walked down the stairs the morning of his party was priceless. He kept pointing and saying, “pirates are here momma!” The whole day was very sweet, we had a house full of friends and family – Oliver is very loved. The ‘treasure chest’ cakes was also a huge hit! I also loved the favors. I made homemade play-dough and stored it in plastic tupperware containers, I tied it with some twine and included the ingredients and directions for the parents to make more. I also included some pirate tattoos, and chocolate coins wrapped in a canvas pouch.
Cleaning up! Isn’t that always how it works?! Thankfully I have amazing friends and family who were all willing to help!
With regards to a budget, did you set one and if so, do you think you stayed within it or went over?
I knew I wanted to make the majority of the decorations so we set a small budget for food and some of the supplies. The other stuff I had on hand. I used my ‘scrap stash’ of fabrics for the backdrop. I cut the banners out using a free template I found online and I used my cricut to cut out the letters. All together we probably spent around $50 on food and drinks and the small amount of supplies I needed for the decorations and favors. It was a very affordable party.
I found everything at Party City and The Dollar Store. The boy’s shirts came from TripleACreations on Etsy and they were a gift for the boys from my wonderful sister in law.
