A few months ago, while out and about in Willowbrook, I came across an adorable shoppe called Chefs for a Day! Although it was closed, a quick peek inside revealed a state-of-the-art kitchen, cute kid friendly kitchen gear, and a class schedule that included classes for all ages! I contacted Chef and co-owner, Laura Valcour about doing a feature on her fun, family-friendly business and here we are! (You can read more about Laura and her business, partner, Ruby, here.)
The shoppe has been designed with function and fun in mind.
From the children’s play kitchen to the cute cooking goodies, Chef Laura and Ruby have captured the essence of what makes cooking a fun, family affair! With classes designed to reach individuals, families, groups, parties, and young and old, there’s sure to be something for everyone. (View classes, events, and calendar here.)
Recently, I was able to join Chef Laura and Ruby as they prepared a class for a local girl scout troop. Anyone who can capture the attention of a gaggle of girls wins my vote. Before they arrived, I enjoyed a veggie pizza. Not only did this pizza look and smell amazing, I enjoyed every last bite of my slice. As a self-proclaimed vegetable hater on pizza, they won me over.
Yes, that’s asparagus!
The girls set to work quickly and Chef Laura explained everything in perfect detail! Apart from a minor yeast/salt mishap, the cooking & preparation process went smoothly. Informative and helpful, Chef Laura explains things in a simplistic way so that even the youngest cook can understand. She takes the mess in her kitchen with grace and manages to smile the whole way through.
On the Menu: Calzones, fresh fruit parfaits and fruit smoothies.
The meal options are planned ahead with fresh ingredients and health and wellness in mind. With over 25 years experience, Chef Laura and Chefs for a Day capture healthy eating in a way that tastes delicious!
Chef Laura is engaging, funny, and listens when others are speaking (a trait that as a parent, I enjoy because she really connects with kids!) She makes cooking a fun experience and can inspire even the grouchiest at-home chef to give a new recipe a try.
I mean, who could possibly say no to someone wearing Cupcakes on her pants?!
These calzones were as big as the girls who made them!
If you are looking for something new to try with your kids or would love a unique night out with your friends, try out Chefs for a Day and make something fabulous with Chef Laura.
Your kids (and your belly) will thank you!
