What type of event did you plan/attend and for who?
I love planning birthday parties for my little ones. My favorites have been my son’s Fireman themed 2nd bday and my daughter’s “pink and ruffles” 1st bday. We don’t live near family, so we invite all of our friends in town to these parties. I want my kids to remember their bday parties as something really special.
I usually start a Pinterest board about 3-6 months before the party. And just pin ideas as I see them. One month before the party, I’ll collect all the ideas I want to execute and then map out what I’ll need to do each week to get it done. Let’s be honest, though – I’m usually up WAY LATE the night before finishing everything up – no matter how much I plan ahead.
Where did you get some of your ideas for the decor/food?
It’s all about Pinterest. What would I do without that site? Follow Rebecca on Pinterest here!
What was your favorite part of the party and/or party-planning process?
I love EVERYTHING crafty about planning. I love initially pinning ideas and then making them come to life. So, the decor and small details are what delight me in party planning. I’m actually very much an introvert, so the actual party itself doesn’t energize me that much. I’m usually pretty exhausted at the end of each party, but the look on my kid’s faces at the transformation of our house is worth it all.
What was your least favorite part?
The clean up afterward! I was still taking parts of decorations down months after my daughter’s bday party.
With regards to a budget, did you set one and if so, do you think you stayed within it or went over?
I usually have an idea of how much I want to spend, but probably go over. I try to find most of the decorations at thrift stores and dollar stores since I like to make my own decorations. There are LOTS of ways to make a party look fabulous on a budget.
