Last January, when I saw how Charlie peered into the gigantic glass-rimmed bed that held Jack, I had no idea how this relationship would pan out. Luckily, I have many moms who know just what it’s like raising two boys about two years apart (my mom being one of those). I feel like for the most part, we have entered a stage where they are really growing into their own special and unique relationship, so I thought I’d document a few of the things I’ve noticed around the house about these brothers.
Each has their own “role” when it comes to household duties. Jack is the perfect height to close the dryer, while Charlie on his tip-toes can put the clothes into the washer. Jack pushes the DVDs in and Charlie gets to press play (usually…) Helping out with vacuuming, I get the big one, Charlie gets the corn popper, and Jack gets the children’s Dyson.
Overheard at the breakfast table the other day, Charlie: “Now Jack…say more!!!” Jack: “Moh” {and signing}, Charlie: “Great job, little buddy!”
The sheer delight that each of them gets in opening the door to their bedroom to find the other one awakening from a nap.
The way that Jack steals & runs away with Charlie’s die-cast cars, only to have Charlie screech and Jack mimic Charlie’s sounds & movements while playing with the cars
Listening to Charlie’s pleas to “gethimgethimgethim!!” as if I’m planning to actually leave Jack on the sidewalk alone while we pull away to the store
Hearing, “Hold my hand” from the back seat and turning to see those tiny hands reaching for the other
Things aren’t always perfect, but their relationship is perfection.
