Reposted from my first pregnancy blog with Charlie (2008):
If you know me even a little bit, you know that I LOVE surprises, but love hints and peeking too! On Friday night, Jim had put all my gifts into baby’s closet (wrapped and otherwise) and said, “Samantha, I know you know they’re in there. Don’t look!” And I didn’t look…that night.
Enter EARLY Saturday morning(4am). As is my new ritual in the third trimester, I got up to go to the bathroom, but I was WIDE awake – I vowed to watch tv on the couch, drift back to sleep and then have Jim wake me up…However…I ended up in the baby’s closet first and began rustling around – I saw a bunch of UNWRAPPED things and was confused if they were really for me…All of the sudden, I hear “AHEM!” outside the door – I freeze. The voice then says, “Samantha?” And I JUMP out of the closet, into my husband’s arms (who had been standing right outside with his hands on his hips…He asked what I was doing, I immediately denied it, and ran into our bedroom. He sifted through the closet where he “found things strewn about.” And then came in and asked if I wanted to do my gifts now (laughing to himself). No joke – I’m sobbing (prego hormones) on the bed and talking about what a bad person I am – he says, “Are you crying?” We sit there for a while, he leaves, gets the gifts together and brings in my Hostess cupcake tradition and sings to me – I know all is forgiven and my sobs are mixed with laughs now. We venture to the baby’s room for the gifts!
Jim, if you read this, I can HONESTLY say, this year, I have done not one ounce of snooping. But something tells me you are just beginning to find new hiding spaces!!
