Today was our first day driving back and after making the preparations the night before, we were out the door at 6:00 a.m. Eastern time. We snagged a quick breakfast at McDonald’s and kept the DVD player OFF most of the time.
After being led to the wrong North Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia, we finally reached our destination, The Varsity, right in time for lunch. We snagged a spot at the world’s largest drive in and enjoyed all sorts of dogs with hand-cut french fries and onion rings. Delicious! It was also during this time that we realized the Atlanta Falcons were playing at home…
Which meant when we finally found the Georgia Aquarium and its parking, we also found THOUSANDS of fans sharing the same parking garage. Hurray! Thankfully, we knew our trip to the Aquarium would be filled with highlights in order to escape the END of the game.
Our first stop was the world’s LARGEST aquarium – with massive stingrays, sharks, whales, and a variety of fish swimming together, we were astounded at how they all played together. At one point, we went through an aquarium “tunnel” where creatures swam all around you as you scooted along on a moving track. We were able to touch shrimp, stingray, anemones, and urchins! With so much to see, it was hard to take it all in in one trip! Charlie was squared of the crowds of people, but especially enjoyed searching for Nemo and his friends (and insisted on staying at Nemo’s tank for hours).
We hopped back into the car to watch “Finding Nemo” and narrowly escaped the crowds from football! We headed on our way to Murfreesboro, TN (halfway between Nashville & Chattanooga) and ate at “Old Chicago.” We didn’t get pizza, but laughed at the irony – I enjoyed a different kind of Calzone and we ended with a big, hot cookie!
It was an early night for us and Charlie slept strangely, but we made it!
