Today was probably one of our most relaxing days to date. After enjoying Poppy’s Chocolate Chip Pancakes, we ventured out to explore the outdoors a bit. We drove for a while, came back, and then traveled to a treasure shop that housed thousands of house doodads that made my head spin! We will surely visit there again before we leave!
Then, Momma & Poppy let mommy and daddy get pampered while they took Charlie to McDonald’s for his first hamburger that he held like a big boy. Daddy enjoyed a haircut and mommy received a pedicure (OPI Cajun Shrimp color) and express manicure. We learned much of the history of the island and enjoyed talking with Jan, the pedicurist. It was truly relaxing!
Justin arrived again then (YES – he came back!) and we headed to the beach so daddy could try surfing again. The waves weren’t that great, but daddy did much better than he did almost four years ago. They quickly got out of the water though and Justin confessed that he had seen some bait jumping (a sign of BIGGER fish) and a FIN! He of course neglected to tell the rest of us until we were almost back home! Charlie laughed and played in the sand and water again, enjoying the gorgeous weather.
We headed back home, watched Animal Planet (EEKS! – mainly animal attacks) and let Charlie nap. Justin went to meet up with Amy (girlfriend) and Bandit (his puppy) and get ready for dinner. We met them at Barbara Jean’s home-cooking restaurant – this was Amy’s first time meeting Charlie also! After waking up crabby, his mood quickly turned when he realized we were again meeting Justin. He was happy…until he met Amy – he then fell obviously head over heels in love.
He learned her name faster than anyone else we could think of and was quickly requesting her by name (“Mii-Mii!”) He shared his drinks, books, and food with her and if anyone even offered to help past the items, he refused, hoping only to pass them to Amy’s hands. He performed for her – said his numbers, did animal sounds, and said his letters – as if pulling out al the stops to impress her. After we moved inside to escape the 1,000s (NO LIE!) of mosquito bites, she sat right by him and the romance furthered. He would take bites of dessert – only from HER – and look deeply into her eyes as he snatched it up. He also squeezed the new jammies she had bought him – as if treasuring a most precious gift. He even offered his binky at her request – which is virtually unheard of! If we thought Justin impressed him and a relationship was growing there, it’s all come to a stop as Charlie attempted to steal his lady…
I should discuss the restaurant – Barbara Jean’s – rhyming with Paula Deen’s – it was the joke of the evening as we attempted to compare. I must confess, however, that the food was OUT OF THIS WORLD! With fresh pumpkin bread, jalapeno corn bread and wheat rolls, we were in heaven. Crab cakes, coconut shrimp, grilled pork chops, she-crab soup, and chicken fried chicken? We’ve met paradise. The Chocolate “Stuff” at the end was enough to put us into a sugar coma (and yes, that’s it’s real name). Given four stars for the night, I vote it the best food yet (and Charlie’s best behavior yet).
