We started out the day pretty simply with breakfast in and then made the 2-hour trek up to Savannah, Georgia. The destination – Paula Deen’s Restaurant “Lady & Sons” open in 1989! We were excited to dig right in – we all opted for the buffet which featured a wide variety of southern cooking – lima beans, country fried chicken, baked chicken, homemade mashed potatoes, mac n cheese…and the list goes on. They served us garlic cheese biscuits to start (YUM O) and a fried corn cake – we all were in HEAVEN! Jim ended the meal with some homemade pecan (Pee-Can) pie with a dollop of whipped cream. Personally, I was glad we went!
The rest of our day in Savannah was spent walking the river, beating the heat, and testing out the little shops. Charlie had fun playing in the fountains, running around and watching all the carriage rides go around with the horses. By the end of our time there, he was spent and proceeded to nap most of the ride home!
We then stopped in Brunswick, Georgia at Sally’s Cop Shop across from FLETC (where Jim did his training almost four years ago now). After snagging a new badge cover and matching family clothing for Jim, myself, Charlie & baby, we were again on our way home.
Our final stop included the local grocery store again for some last minute additions to dinner in for the night – then Charlie, Jim, and I headed to the beach again! We played in the sand, ran through the waves and took some more opportunities for photo ops – we may not come back tan, but we will have enjoyed our time in the sun.
Dinner was Chicken Stir Fry a la Momma & baked chocolate chip cookies for dessert. Lounging at the end watching the Master Chef finale and another relaxing vacation day is complete.
