Our Saturday into Sunday evening was….frightful to say the least. With two queen sized beds, Jim and I still shared one with Charlie in the middle for fear that he would fall off with all of his flailing. He kicked Jim in the face repeatedly, touched parts of our faces in the middle of the night & stretched out forming an H with our bodies most of the night – Charlie being perpendicular. Needless to say, he awoke early (and included us) and we were all t.i.r.e.d. Luckily, Poppy brought us a smoothie to keep us awake!!
We headed out onto the road and made a quick stop at Bill & Fran’s Diner in Newberry. The decor was simple & basic as was the menu – we enjoyed the usual breakfast fare and declared it (thus far) our tastiest meal. Charlie again did great and we enjoyed some time napping, watching movies, and playing in the car – Charlie again wanted INTO the car and even commenced to dancing until he could get in.
Poppy found lunch on a billboard (“The Smokin’ Pig”) and Jim found its location next to a BP gas station. Very unassuming, it reminded us of a combination of Q BBQ and Hog Wild. The food? Tender, Delicious & 3 stars from us – our best meal thus far.
The final 2 hours seemed like an eternity, but we eventually made it into our destination – Amelia Island. The home is luxurious and right near the pool. We scoped the town out a bit, grabbed some groceries, and took our first official dip in the Atlantic.
If the sand had not been difficult terrain, Charlie would have RUN to the water – stopping every few feet to kick and play in the sand, he eventually stood within the tide and loved the water rushing over him – especially when it knocked him down. It was just a taste of the next six days…but he SCREAMED when we tore him away…He will clearly be our beach baby.
We ended the night with Tony’s Brick Oven Pizza & Calzone. My calzone was phenomenal & the pizza was pretty good. The smell of fresh-baked cookies are wafting to me as I type & my child is *finally* asleep in his temporary home. We have arrived.
