I originally asked the following & received this answer back in April of this year.
Question:
You always seem to have good advice for me, so whenever you have time, I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts. You talked before about how sometimes God says no and how we react to situations like that. How do you handle or have you handled situations where God says yes to someone else about the exact same thing that he said no to you on?
Thoughts?
Response:
This is very difficult to know how to answer in the abstract. It is very hard to understand why some people get a blessing and you do not. It seems to me that those who get it are often unholy, not deserving of the blessing they received. It seems very unfair. However, I know that we are often called to wait for our blessings. I think of Joseph’s story, Genesis 37. For whatever reason he had to wait years to see the fulfillment of his dream. Even when things seemed to go right, they went wrong. But he persevered and eventually received his blessing. Importantly, those who cursed him came to bow down to him, just as his dream had foretold.
God’s timing is eternal. We want stuff now. You do. I do. That is normal. But God’s ways are not our ways. Waiting is really hard, especially when others are seemingly blessed. Personally, waiting is one of the most difficult things there is for me. Seeing people blessed when I feel cursed is very, very hard. I struggle with this more than you know. I try to trust that God has the best for me in mind and will do what is right. Looking back on some of the terribly painful experiences in my life confirms that.
I would say that you need to let God know your heart. See if He reveals why. If there is no answer forthcoming, you need to try and trust him to work it all out. It will not be easy but it is usually the right answer.
