Over the past six months, we have introduced and said goodbye to a variety of baby necessities. With most things, we couldn’t live without them. Here’s just a few that we will now bid adieu to as we move on to Charlie’s next six months.
Infant Bathtub and Spa
Over time, Charlie has gotten used to the bath and even really likes them now (could be because of his exposure to the pool). He loves looking at himself in our big mirror and even splashing. However, as he has grown, the splashing has become tidal waves and his body is practically out of the tub with his length. He constantly tries to sit up and touch the water from the tub’s spout and daddy will let him play in it for a while. As of last night, Charlie has graduated to a big boy seat in the tub that allows him to sit up. We’ll see how that works out…
The Bumbo Seat
This product was raved about to us by many parents! We received one at our shower from the Harrises and began using it when Charlie was around 2 and a half months or so. This seat allowed Charlie to sit up, look at the world around him and even join us (on the table) for dinner. He really loved his new view! Unfortunately, because of the size of his thighs (which have thinned out now) and his bending ability, he wouldn’t sit still for long and can even sit by himself now for periods of time. Bumbo seat was retired when Charlie was around 4.5 months.
Aquarium Bouncer
Borrowed from Aunt Alicia and Uncle Chris, Charlie has used this thing like CRAZY! He loved watching the fish and kicking the seahorses. He even occasionally liked the vibrations. Unfortunately, with a roly-poly guy on the go, Charlie soon tried to bend out of this to get toys on the ground (almost falling out) and his length was exceeding it. We said goodbye to this friend at the end of June!
The Tummy Time Mat!
Purchased originally because it matched the decor in his room, Charlie didn’t like much tummy time on this mat. After much thought (and rolling around), this mat is also being retired. (Truth be told, we stopped using this around Month Three. He HATED tummy time and started rolling right around then, so we opted to just forget about it!)
The Green Binky
Charlie’s green pacifier or “binky” as we lovingly call it has been with us since Day 1 in the hospital. Despite the many “scoldings” new parents receive regarding pacifiers, Charlie’s green binky has been a lifesaver! Even from within the womb, Charlie loved his hands. Each ultrasound showed his little fist tucked near his face and part of it in his mouth. Unfortunately, when he arrived, the nurse (in her wisdom) covered his little hands with no scratch mittens and he threw a fit!! We asked for a binky and never turned back. We received a bunch of MAM brand ones in the hospital and a few at our shower. It is the only brand he will take. Today, I bought him some new ones to add to his collection in an effort to “retire” the green binky. It is clearly deteriorating and we’re on to bigger and better things. His little green binky has a place in his baby book forever.
